A name says a lot! As with this poetically named chalet in the centre of Méribel. Evocation of a small-holding of years gone by where chickens cluck at your feet, the trusty cart-horse’s head nods over the stable door and your grandfather sucks thoughtfully on his pipe under the porch. Not quite! Yes, this place is huge (800m2), yes it has the lavish facilities that you expect from a high-end ski chalet, and yet it convincingly references rusticity, memories of an ancient Savoyard lifestyle before La Folie Douce was a twinkle in anyone’s eye.
And yet! Bedrooms are plentiful, super-spacious and even enjoy a hint of glamour with richly plush soft furnishings and en-suite bathrooms. There are eight of them, two of which are large enough to merit the descriptor “master”, and two more of which include off-shoots of the main room with bunkbeds, creating family suites. The main living space wanders around with almost a swagger past a well-provided for bar to a dining area that has the comfort and elegance worthy of the expertise of the private chef and settles, for now, on the massive sofas around the blazing log fire.
When it comes to the leisure facilities you are certainly a long way from that farmyard, but the design still takes you to a landscape where nature is not far off, at least in the imagination. The swimming pool is dreamy beautiful, the sauna is hot, a Jacuzzi bubbles, the massage room is tranquil, the Hammam is steamy and there are some cardio machines if the exertions of ploughing the fields has not used all your energy. As if that is not enough, you can venture into a cave carved out of grey rock and experience a snow shower - ice crystals tumble against skin hot from the sauna.
You are still in that traditional farmhouse when you seek out the play room. Sort of. Carved arched ceilings create the feeling of the traditional cellar where naturally regulated cool air allowed for storage of fruit, vegetables, even meat. In the days before refrigerators. But here the space is cosy warm and full of entertainment. Billiards, table-football, pinball, darts and, in case they had not removed it far enough away from pastimes of a more bucolic era, a large flatscreen TV and games consoles. Then again, you are even further away from the farm in the cinema room, a thoroughly civilised affair with glamorous sofas.
La ferme de mon grand-père is in the centre of Méribel only 700m from the ski lifts and yet you have a private car with driver to transport you within the resort. Perhaps allow yourself a momentary vision of those bygone days when this bit of land was alpine pasture and someone’s grandfather was tending the terrain. But then go and get on that lift that takes you up to well-connected vast ski area that is the Trois Vallées.

Do you love food? I don't know many people that don't - there is something wonderfully comforting and indulgent about having somebody else take control of the kitchen. But when that person is a talented chef with hands-on experience of high end restaurants, you know you’re in for a mouth-watering treat. We hand-pick our chalet partners for their beautiful properties, stand out service and their dedication to gastronomy. Here’s a taste of what you can expect when staying in one of our catered ski chalets:
A perfect start to the day
No need to rush out of bed - breakfast is laid on. A healthy array of fresh fruit juices, a selection of warming teas and coffee - yoghurts, crispy cereals, juicy fruit and a mouth-watering display of delicious fresh breads & delicate pastries. Your chef will also prepare a daily cooked hot option for you - how do you like your eggs? So much choice that you might miss the first ski lift if you're not careful. On the staff day-off a continental breakfast will be laid out for you to enjoy.
High tea temptations
Come back after a wonderful day on the mountain to the warmth and comfort of your chalet. Snuggle up on the comfy sofa in front of a crackling fire, with a steaming cup of tea and a generous serving of cake – this is how all afternoons should be. Enjoy homemade patisserie, so whether your preference is for a hearty sticky Apple and Ginger cake or a delicate Mille-feuille aux framboise is more your thing, there will be something tempting waiting for you. Personally, I don’t think you can beat a slice of crispy baguette with lashings of butter and dollops of apricot jam or Nutella - but maybe that’s just me - the perfect comfort food.
Celebrate with Canapés
When staying in a catered chalet every night feels like a special occasion, and why shouldn't it, you're on an amazing holiday and it's so good to be alive. Enjoy welcome Champagne & canapés on your first evening to celebrate your arrival.
Serving up a sensuous feast
Take a seat at your own private table - it's time for the main event – a delicious feast, masterfully crafted by your talented chef. With an emphasis on using hand-selected, fresh, local and seasonal ingredients you will be served a melt in your mouth dinner that wouldn't look out of place in a restaurant. Menus can be tailored to suit your tastes and your chef will be happy to prepare everything from a simple supper to fine dining delights. Dinner is served on 6 nights.
Let the good times flow
The chalet provides complimentary teas, coffees & soft drinks. Champagne & canapés are served on your first evening. The chalet has an extensive wine list and you can purchase to suit your taste.
Children & dietary requirements
The chalet is happy to cater for specific dietary requirements, and will serve an earlier high tea for children. You can talk to your SkiBoutique PA about any specific requests from dietary requirements such as gluten free diets to birthday cakes and favourite dishes. We will do our very best to ensure that your wishes are granted and delivered in resort.
