Small and discerning family seeks boutique ski apartment for cosy nights in, easy access to the slopes and proximity to shops and restaurants. Occasional in-house catering desired, spa facilities essential. Top match confirmed: Apartment Edelweiss, Zermatt.
Finding suitably stylish accommodation for the exclusive use of your small family is always a challenge. Where do you find a chic, contemporary and well-equipped apartment with access to spa facilities, but with only 3 bedrooms? Bigger chalets are over priced of course; small apartments are usually cramped, both in facilities and in the style stakes. Not so here at Apartment Edelweiss.
Arriving in Zermatt you are greeted personally at the train station, and transported the 2 minute journey by electro taxi; quirky little vehicles that buzz around the car free town of Zermatt getting excited holiday makers from A to B. The apartment complex is striking on first glance; sitting atop a rocky spur overlooking Zermatt. It is also intimate; just 6 apartments share the building, and the all important spa facilities. It’s no grey concrete block towering out of the Alpine landscape; this building blends harmoniously with its surrounds; it fits.
The interiors also inspire; beautiful wooden floors are pared with bright, white walls and softened with furnishings in greys and cream. Bright, red colour splashes lift the whole look, which is completed by carefully chosen, angular modern furniture, and striking baths in each of the bedrooms guaranteeing an extraordinary view from the tub.
The winner for you surely is the superb hotel-style service offered in this nonetheless very private accommodation. Breakfast is delivered and served to you each morning, so no one has to get up early to do the croissant run. Then later you have the freedom of your own well-equipped kitchen in which to prepare meals whenever you like. Or why not book the in house chef Alain Grandadam for a night or two? Spoil yourselves, you’re on holiday.
You are placed so centrally that on more than one occasion you take a short stroll from the chalet to a restaurant in the town centre; Elsie’s was your favourite for grown-up drinks and Oysters, but the whole family adored the burgers at Bubble Bar, a big hit. Not to mention the delicious pastries and hand made chocolates from Fuchs – you’ll have to take some home as a little indulgent memory from a happy family holiday spent in Zermatt.
After long days spent exploring the slopes of Zermatt and more than once skiing across to Italy for lunch (the fresh pasta was incredible) the shared wellness area is such a treat. The whirlpool is really huge and the perfect tonic for those achy legs, but it’s better when you can persuade the kids to stop splashing around. Gorgeous views extend before you, out across the glistening white mountainsides. The traditional wooden sauna also boasts great views of the nature outdoors, and there’s a steam bath too. Oh, and for that extra special dose of spoiling you can book a massage with the in-house therapist. Heaven.
While your holiday highlights has the spa high up the list, the children are equally as enthralled by the cinema room shared between the apartments, and they adored those movie nights catching a film with their own buckets of popcorn, feeling like they were attending a private screening.
A perfect blend of privacy granted by your gorgeous apartment, and the sort of luxury facilities you would usually associate with a large hotel, you could want for little more at Edelweiss.

“Jostling for position amongst the elite is this newcomer to the Zermatt skyline. It doesn’t shout, ‘look at me’ like The Peak, nor does it have a stand out feature to compete with The Backstage. It sings its own song. La Vue is a collection of apartments that can be rented separately or taken as a whole and the joins are seamless. The interiors are an essay in spaciousness and colour; the designers of this beautiful chalet have created wonderful interior spaces that sing with light and make a stay here good for the soul. La Vue transcends its constituent parts and proves the adage, less is more – something a little unusual among the luxury ski chalets in Zermatt”
