It’s your first visit to Tignes and the legendary Espace Killy ski area. As you are driven through the Tarentaise Valley steadily climbing, the anticipation builds. You’ve heard that some of Europe’s most challenging skiing resides here, and you’re ready for it.
Pre-holiday ski exercises have been attacked with vigor for weeks and now it’s time to tackle La Sache! As you approach the resort you drive over the vast arched Chevril Dam, with stunning views across the Lac du Chevril. The mountainsides are high and steep, the resort nothing short of dramatic.
There’s a buzz of expectancy as you drive towards the resort centre, other holidaymakers disembark their coaches and hunt out their luggage as you pass serenely by in your private, chauffeur driven minivan. Before quite reaching the centre of resort you take a right turn and climb a little higher, closer to the white stuff.
You arrive in the quiet enclave tucked in next to the Almes piste and take your first glimpse at Chalet Opale’s striking angles, vintage wood and stone cladding, the vast picture windows. She and her sister property Chalet Ambre sit sympathetically within their environment, whilst at the same time sparkling and distinctive, a far cry from neighbouring properties.
The interiors live up to the promise of that first striking impression; natural woods and sumptuous soft furnishings in creams and rich browns. These are punctuated by compelling pieces of furniture and an eye-catching sculpture entitled ‘The Force of Nature’ by Italian sculptor Lorenzo Quinn. The décor is subtle but luxurious, with the open fire the centre piece to the large, open plan living area perfect for socilaising around after a big day on the slopes. Socialise you will do, enjoying special moments with loved ones in these glorious spaces; on one of the many terraces or balconies over looking the resort, and in the extravagant hot tub with a view to die for.
The team of friendly, professional staff impress with one master stroke after another; champagne reception to kick things off in style, followed by heavenly afternoon tea, just what you desired after a day of travelling. When you do reach your room – the top floor Master Suite of course, after all it was you who found Chalet Opale – you find your suitcase is already there waiting. It can wait a little longer, though, as you slip into your swim suit and the fluffy white dressing gown and take in the views from the vast floor-to-ceiling windows. Time to try out that hot tub on the lower terrace.
This beautifully crafted property finds the perfect balance; tranquil retreat after skiing, and in the evenings a glamorous entertaining space for drinks and canapés by the fire, and long, lingering dinners around the large and sociable dining table. The chef will impress with skillful and creative dishes, 5 of them each night! If that’s too much then one word from you is all that’s needed, the menus can be designed to suit you so if healthy, light suppers are more your style then your wish is their command. You could certainly have booked Chalet Opale as a self catered property, but would you want to miss out on all this?
The skiing from Chalet Opale is indeed spectacular and does not disappoint; your complimentary 2 days with local ski instructor Jean-Luc set the tone for a sensational week. After the welcome fresh snow you could even ski right back to the chalet door! Even without fresh snow it is under a minute’s walk to the Almes piste allowing everyone to sing from their own hymn sheet, heading out whenever they fancy and returning independently too. If you don’t fancy the little walk – or fancy starting from a different part of the resort - the chalet chauffeur is always ready waiting to escort you, in his charming Bavarian hat. It is a vast resort after all, so you should make the most of it.

“For parties who venture to Chalet Opale in Tignes there is no shortage of excitement. In addition to a paragliding flight, guests will also have a chance to try their hand at ice driving and to partake in a private helicopter tour of the Mont Blanc, scaling the dizzy heights of the highest mountain in Europe. The five-bedroom, ski-to-the-door bolthole is the perfect retreats after a busy day, nestled in a quiet enclave of Tignes with an enviable location next to the Almes piste in the heart of the Espace Killy ski area. The chalet boasts uninterrupted views of the surrounding peaks, which can be viewed from the outdoor hot tub.”

No need to rush out of bed - breakfast is laid on. A healthy array of fresh fruit juices, a selection of warming teas and coffee - yoghurts, crispy cereals, juicy fruit and a mouth-watering display of delicious fresh breads & delicate pastries. Your chef will also prepare a daily cooked hot option for you - how do you like your eggs? So much choice that you might miss the first ski lift if you're not careful.
Come back after a wonderful day on the mountain to the warmth and comfort of your chalet. Snuggle up on the comfy sofa in front of a crackling fire, with a steaming cup of tea and a generous serving of cake – this is how all afternoons should be. Your chef will prepare a fresh from the oven, sweet treat for your return, so whether your preference is for a hearty sticky Apple and Ginger cake or a delicate Mille-feuille aux framboise is more your thing, there will be something tempting waiting for you. Personally I don’t think you can beat a slice of crispy baguette with lashings of butter and dollops of apricot jam or nutella - but maybe that ‘s just me - the perfect comfort food.
When staying in a catered chalet every night feels like a special occasion, and why shouldn't it, you're on an amazing holiday and it's so good to be alive. You’re dressed and ready for a glass of something chilled with friends and family, ready to regale them with tales of your mountain adventures that may get a little exaggerated for dramatic effect with each rendition.
Take a seat at your own private table - it's time for the main event – a delicious feast, masterfully crafted by your talented chef. With an emphasis on using hand-selected, fresh, local and seasonal ingredients you will be served a melt in your mouth three course dinner that wouldn't look out of place in a Michelin starred restaurant. Dinner is complimented by a tangy platter of divine local cheeses. Menus can be tailored to suit your tastes and your chef will be happy to prepare everything from a simple supper to fine dining delights.
The chalet provides beer & a selection of house wines. They also offer a wine list for you to purchase wines of your choice if you prefer.
The chalet is happy to cater for specific dietary requirements, and will serve an earlier high tea for children. You can talk to your SkiBoutique PA about any specific requests from dietary requirements such as gluten free diets to birthday cakes and favourite dishes.
