There are some properties that don’t deserve to be forgotten, just like the man they were named after. For this isn’t just any old chalet, this is the former childhood home of ski pioneer and legend Hannes Schneider. Dating back to the mid 19th century, this is certainly one such chalet refusing to let history be buried under another winter’s snowfall.
Starting life as an authentic townhouse in the heart of the Arlberg, House Hannes Schneider has been transformed into the iconic understated luxury that we know you are seeking. I’m sure that the legend, myth, ski-pioneer and world-traveller would never have imagined but would surely be delighted at the sympathetic restoration. Vital in its transformation from humble home to featuring within our collection, you can look forward to being cocooned by authentic beams, beautiful antiques, aged stones and traditional Austrian details. All this meticulously combined with sumptuous fabrics and the modern day luxe we all deserve.
Located in the picturesque village of Stuben, this townhouse wants to stand out and be remembered and we know that that is exactly what your favourite days spent at House Hannes Schneider will be. Truly cherished by each and every family member. Whether that be by your father-in-law with a passionate dislike for polished chrome and slate, through to your youngest and the way their imagination will be captured in their dedicated cinema room and play space. For you, it is the six individually and stylishly decorated bedrooms and space for your nanny Eliza to join you but enjoy her own privacy. Then there is the dedicated chauffeur service running throughout the day and into the early hours, incase that lazy lunch escalates into St Anton’s notorious après.
As the sun starts to melt into the horizon and when fingers and toes start to feel the nip of winter, there will be no place better to warm up than the sauna and spa before gathering around the wood burning stove with pre dinner canapés and champagne. These are the days that you rightly live for.
Alongside the modern day flare of your professional chef, you are never far from being reminded of where House Hannes Schneider has come from. You know that there is even more to look forward to with the arrival of the coming swimming pool, gym and hammam. You can almost hear the excitement exuding from House Hannes Schneider’s 400m2 at the thought of next year’s transformation into the ultimate luxe. After another top up of your favourite complimentary red, you might just wake up the next morning to find that the frivolous chat of two favourite weeks next year has found its way to reality.
For now though, with the children tucked up in bed and having sweet dreams of all things snow related, it’s time to push that dining chair back and convene around the sixteen seater dining table. Just the place to put the world and your favourite days to rights.
With the help of the dedicated team of staff, this is where not only Hannes Schneider’s skiing memories began but where yours are just beginning.

In Stuben, Austria, the childhood home of the ‘father of modern skiing’ has been turned into a sleek private chalet. Inside, there is the vintage wood panelling, roaring fire and hunting trophies you would expect, but also touches of contemporary design — beautiful glassware from Stillsegler, lighting from Gubi and Lampe Gras — and the work of numerous artists. Two portraits by Mary Waters dominate the lounge, and a light installation by Gerold Tagwerker hangs in the stairwell. There’s a small spa area downstairs, with sauna and hot tub.

Come back after a wonderful day on the mountain to the warmth and comfort of your chalet. Snuggle up on the comfy sofa in front of a crackling fire, with a steaming cup of tea and a generous serving of cake – this is how all afternoons should be. Your chef will prepare a fresh from the oven, sweet treat for your return, so whether your preference is for a hearty sticky Apple and Ginger cake or a delicate Mille-feuille aux framboise is more your thing, there will be something tempting waiting for you. Personally I don’t think you can beat a slice of crispy baguette with lashings of butter and dollops of apricot jam or nutella - but maybe that ‘s just me - the perfect comfort food.
