You wind your way up the final few twists and turns approaching Zermatt and pull up at a station. A private station. Accessing a private funicular, which transports you through the mountain itself to the exclusive Petit Village – and directly into Chalet Maurice, your private chalet. There is a majesty to Maurice proudly overlooking the twinkling lights of Zermatt, the skyline above dominated by that other Majestical Zermatt being, the Matterhorn.
In no other chalet in Zermatt can you arrive in such style and with such ease; your comfort is key here, just as it should be. Relax with a glass of Champagne and soak in the views and the splendor of your surroundings.Maurice is your blank canvas upon which to paint those most precious of holiday memories.
The professional and friendly team will orchestrate special, memorable moments, whether it’s the tonic of a soothing massage after a big day on the mountain, or a Hendricks Gin & tonic while you snuggle up by the fire and the kids revel in the freedom of the separate TV lounge. A taxi will always be outside ready to whisk you up to the slopes – or down into town after dinner to sample the cocktails at Gees.
Chalet Maurice has that magical quality; shy in the daytime; transformed by night. At first glance understated, with natural woods and subtle earthy tones punctuated with little splashes of colour in the bedrooms (all of which bar one have stunning views of the Matterhorn). In the dining room your eye is drawn to a beautiful sculpture; this is entitled “What goes around comes around” - a piece by Italian sculptor Lorenzo Quinn.
Other than the outstanding service nothing in Chalet Maurice is overtly flashy, not in the daytime at least. Though the wellness suite has the power to transport you to another yet more tranquil world, and the view from the outside hot tub is also out of this world. Nicely private – your own little amphi-theatre onto the Matterhorn.
But in the evening it’s a different story. Chalet Maurice comes alive with clever, subtle lighting casting dramatic shadows across the sitting room and dining area. A truly special dining experience, especially if you are quick enough to bag one of the seats facing the vast picture windows onto the Matterhorn.
The food too will be exquisite. You’re in the driving seat here; choose from multi course, gourmet tasting menus or opt for simple home cooking, and anything in between. The skilled chef will create bespoke menus just to your taste – or surprise you if you prefer! Enjoy, amongst others, the fine Swiss wines here. Rarely found outside of Switzerland as such small quantities are produced, the whites in particular are really excellent.
For the blissful time that is your holiday here you won’t lift a finger, other than to raise a toast to your own very good taste in choosing Chalet Maurice.
