There are some properties that don’t deserve to be forgotten. They have a certain je ne sais quoi about them that just won’t let them be left behind in the past. Dating back to 1632, this is certainly one such chalet.
Starting life as a cheese farm run by local monks, it is safe to say that Chalet du Cret never intended to be a run of the mill, typically Savoyarde building left to crumble into history. Located in the picturesque tranquil hamlet of Le Cret, there was only one future aspiration in mind for that old farm. To become one of the most luxurious chalets in one of the World’s most luxurious ski resorts. This is a chalet that wants to stand out and be remembered and we know that that is exactly what your favourite days spent at Chalet du Cret will be. Truly cherished by each and every family member. Whether that be by your husband with a keen restorative eye, as he admires the abundant original features through to your youngest and the way their imagination is captured in the children's den. For you, it is the six individually decorated en-suite bedrooms, each with their own elegant modern twist and for Auntie who never wishes to step foot on a pair of skis, it’s the chalet’s chauffeur service to whisk her to and from Val D’Isere’s boutiques.
Starting from the outside, so we can swiftly move back inside and leave the cold where it belongs, your gaze can’t help but be drawn to Chalet du Cret’s beautiful chapel that is nestled into the chalet’s idyllic grounds. This is a space where the children can run free and hone their inner snowman making tactics. Preparation can never start to early for Friday’s annual Jordan v Smith make off. Competitive? No, not your families, surely?
When their fingers and toes start to feel the nip of winter, there will be no place better for them to warm up with a chocolat chaud than in their den featuring faux grass floors and climbable walls. This is a space to let creative minds run riot, all in the sanctuary of the ultimate hideaway. So private that not only will you require their favourite password to allow adults to venture in but also to allow you undisturbed peace and quiet to enjoy that most sacred hour – canapés and champagne by the fire.
Alongside the modern day flare of your professional chef, you are never far from being reminded of where Chalet du Cret has come from. Exposed beams and stonework and tactile brushed walls all remind you of the immediate history you have been immersed into this week. You know that there is even more to look forward to next year when you could be immersing yourself into the chalet’s revamped spa. You can almost hear the excitement exuding from Chalet du Cret’s basement at the thought of next year’s transformation into the ultimate luxe. Just like your husband’s wine glass is quivering in anticipation at the arrival of next winter’s glass fronted wine cave. You may have to turn the frivolous chat of two favourite weeks next year into a reality.
For now though, with the children tucked up in bed and having sweet dreams of all things snow related, why not be flippant and have a starlit dip in the outdoor hot tub? Your favourite days and nights were made for spontaneous moments like these and with the help of the dedicated team of staff at Chalet du Cret, this is where memories truly begin.
