From the lush green terraces of Bali to the pristine white slopes of Tignes, it is time to journey to the exotic. Now, we will forgive your senses for possibly being a tad confused upon arrival at Chalet Ubud. Everything is telling you you have just walked into the exotic, apart from the nip at your toes and your fingers as you are cocooned under snow boots and your new down jacket. It is time to immerse your senses on your new found favourite week.
Welcome to the uplands of Bali in the Tarentaise Valley. We did tell you that this would be gratification for all the senses. Winter comes but only once a year and for that annual office escape in February, there is only one place you would ever dream of heading. The Alps. It might be a fair few degrees cooler and the terraces of Bali have been replaced with a white winter wonderland but let Chalet Ubud nurture you.
Once inside, slip the coat off and let the vast windows allow you to take in the magnitude of your kingdom for the week. Chalet Ubud sits overlooking the slopes and village of Tignes les Brévières and comes with direct access to the pedestrian gondola.
Spread over three hundred square metres and with four hundred square metres of communal space, this is just the place to kick back in and relax. Now, if you were in Bali we would suggest flinging the doors open but we suggest lighting a roaring great fire instead and snuggling up in the large living space complete with two south facing balconies. Enjoy the company of Balinese arts and crafts that we bet never imagined would be making their home at a snowy 1550m. Let alone a giant crocodile.
Sorry, did we forget to say that you will be having company this week? Fortunately he doesn’t get a bedroom of his own, so all six ensuite bedrooms are entirely yours. However, the enormous crocodile will be joining you for breakfast and dinner, as he can be found day and night supporting the dining table. An incredibly important feature of any ski holiday, whether it be fully catered or a luxury self-catered week like at Chalet Ubud. The crocodile will also oversee the vital morning board meeting to ensure that no day goes unplanned and no piste gets over looked.
Chalet Ubud is just the haven you wish to return to after another extraordinary day of exploring the pistes of Tignes and Val D’Isere. Be welcomed home to a game of table football for the children or sinking into the shared swimming pool, hamman and sauna for the grown ups. Bliss. Even more joyful is the thought that your evening meal got delivered this morning and is sat contentedly in the fridge waiting for everyone’s hunger levels to ratchet up another level. After all, there is no agenda for such magical days. Time constraints were left outside in the cold, along with that case of bubbly.
With five king-sized bedrooms, who needs to fly to South-East Asia for indulgent luxury? Now, you don’t want to run the risk of wishing away such favourite days but you do look forward to that time when you can escape to your most striking bed in the Alps. Just remember to have a strong word with yourself tomorrow that you are here to ski. For the youngest members of the family, those too young to appreciate the magic of skiing, their inspiring bedroom will be the start of their love affair for the mountains. Push the elephants on the wardrobe doors open and let them be transported to their magical lair. Four beautiful bunk beds, illuminated by the rich hues of wood, welcome them for the week.
It seems that everyone has been thought about this week. From Uncle Chris and his rickety knees nodding in approval at the communal entrance’s elevator to Sally’s despairing groans being the thing of holidays past at yet another pain au chocolate meeting its fate on her five year old’s base layer. With Level 1’s laundry room complete with washing machine and tumble dryer, she can take Bali’s laid back vibe on board. You don’t think a week in the Alps has ever been so harmonious.
Credit must be due to the crocodile’s incredible newfound snow dancing skills.
