Hard working, generous and fun-loving parents seek glamorous and child-friendly luxury ski chalet smack bang on the piste, for a well-deserved family break. Must come with private chef and housekeeper, chauffeur services and out-door hot tub preferred. You find your perfect match in Méribel: Chalet Tomkins.
It’s not easy to strike a balance between stylish surroundings, and child-friendly amenities, but Chalet Tomkins meets this challenge with a deft touch; beauty and taste surrounds you from the premium slope-side location to the sophisticated décor, and yet nothing feels too delicate, nothing too breakable. At Chalet Tomkins adults can experience true luxury whilst the children have space to roam freely and play to their hearts content – the perfect family holiday.
Located on the privileged Route des Chalets, Tomkins is an attractive traditionally styled Alpine chalet from the outside, and sits within her own plot of private gardens perfect for building snow men and the odd obligatory holiday snow ball fight. When you’ve tired from all that exertion the indoor amusements are equally exciting; a TV room & games room complete with pool table; perfect for the kids to kick back in with bowls of popcorn – while you relax in front of the open wood fire upstairs with a glass of Merlot and a good book.
The interior recently refurbished in 2014 offers a stylish ski room – bedecked in leather sofas and fur throws, more akin to a smart members club than a place to store skis and heat boots. Upstairs in the sitting room are comfortable sofas in dark greys and purples, stylish chandeliers and heavy sweeping curtains. Bathrooms are bang-up-to-date, with feature baths in some, and pearlescent tiled wet rooms in others. His and hers basins, naturally.
The bedrooms are all unique, some seductive with dark wood paneling, sparkling chandeliers and antique cabinets; others with brighter colour schemes sure to catch the kids’ attention.
The true vacation here is provided by the team of professional staff, who seamlessly ensure every detail is taken care of. From the kids’ favourite breakfast cereal and dippy eggs in the morning, to your ski boots heated and ready to go, and the chauffeur on stand-by to whisk you down to the shops when a spot of retail therapy calls your name.
Though the chalet is a genuine ski-in/ski-out property located on the blue Doron piste, your chauffeur will happily collect you from the town centre if you decide to explore the lively après scene at Jack’s Bar. Arguably the best après though can be found piste-side just one turn above Tomkins on the Doron piste, at the legendary Rond Point (Ronnie).
After an exhilarating day on the slopes the perfect way to unwind is provided on your heated deck; an oak barrel Jacuzzi. With accompanying glass of Champagne, of course. Lie back, soak in the views and let the jets massage your tired legs. Not quite relaxed enough yet? Head to the sauna to continue this rejuvenating therapy, and then round the day off with a massage all arranged for you by your attentive chalet manager.
Post spa induced siesta, it is definitely time for dinner. For the whole family if you choose, or have grown up evenings to yourselves – your own private chef is there to give you a break from the kitchen, and an indulgent, special experience. You’re on holiday, after all.
The children can enjoy early suppers and then head to the TV room, leaving you to dine in splendid style on delicious dishes, each designed to impress, with your personal pallets in mind. Dinner is accompanied by excellent hand-selected wines, and the evening is rounded off superbly with a cheeseboard sampling local specialties, and your choice of digestif. The perfect ending to each perfect day.

“This is one of the original chalet locations in Méribel, completely rebuilt in 2002. It is set on a quiet road within walking distance of the village and has spectacular views of the valley. It has six en suite bedrooms, a huge open-plan sitting/dining room on four levels with log fireplace, a billiards room, sauna and gym. No need to rush out of bed - breakfast is laid on. A healthy array of fresh fruit juices, a selection of warming teas and coffee - yoghurts, crispy cereals, juicy fruit and a mouth-watering display of delicious fresh breads & delicate pastries. Your chef will also prepare a daily cooked hot option for you - how do you like your eggs? A continental breakfast of wonderful French bread and pastries is served on the chef's day off. So much choice that you might miss the first ski lift if you're not careful.
Come back after a wonderful day on the mountain to the warmth and comfort of your chalet. Snuggle up on the comfy sofa in front of a crackling fire, with a steaming cup of tea and a generous serving of cake – this is how all afternoons should be. Your chef will prepare a fresh from the oven, sweet treat for your return, so whether your preference is for a hearty sticky Apple and Ginger cake or a delicate Mille-feuille aux framboise is more your thing, there will be something tempting waiting for you. Personally I don’t think you can beat a slice of crispy baguette with lashings of butter and dollops of apricot jam or nutella - but maybe that ‘s just me - the perfect comfort food.
When staying in a catered chalet every night feels like a special occasion, and why shouldn't it, you're on an amazing holiday and it's so good to be alive. You’re dressed and ready for a glass of something chilled with friends and family, ready to regale them with tales of your mountain adventures that may get a little exaggerated for dramatic effect with each rendition. Enjoy the delicious canapés and amuse-bouche freshly prepared by your star in the kitchen.
Take a seat at your own private table - it's time for the main event – a delicious feast, masterfully crafted by your talented chef. With an emphasis on using hand-selected, fresh, local and seasonal ingredients you will be served a melt in your mouth three course dinner that wouldn't look out of place in a Michelin starred restaurant. Dinner is complimented by a tangy platter of divine local cheeses served with digestifs. Menus can be tailored to suit your tastes and your chef will be happy to prepare everything from a simple supper to fine dining delights.
The chalet provides an open bar of beer, wines and mixers.
The chalet is happy to cater for specific dietary requirements, and will serve an earlier high tea for children. You can talk to your SkiBoutique PA about any specific requests from dietary requirements such as gluten free diets to birthday cakes and favourite dishes. We will do our very best to ensure that your wishes are granted and delivered in resort.
