Overview

Your fairytale came true

If you take a rustic 17th century Savoyard farm building and creatively transform it into an icon of contemporary design, the result is Ferme de Moudon. The chocolate box exterior belies the chic interior of this minimalist masterpiece.

Set in its own grounds in a tiny hamlet, it is very private, yet a mere three minute chauffeured drive from the centre of Les Gets and the main lift hub. Uninterrupted views of the national park, pistes and powder fields give the feeling that all you survey is your own.

This is the type of luxury chalet that makes people take up their pens in absolute enjoyment and admiration. Kevin McCloud of Grand Designs Abroad described the interior of the chalet as "something from a James Bond set", while Victoria Mather summed it up as “beyond perfect".

The large open plan living space is instantly calming, blending ancient timbers above with carefully chosen contemporary furnishings below, with light flooding in from two vast picture windows. The dramatic Italian kitchen is state-of-the-art, demarcated by a chic dark wood bar where you can watch the chef cook up a storm.

The attention to detail is exceptional. Every piece of furniture is bespoke or adapted specifically for the house. Each of the five bedrooms are individually decorated, with the master suite taking up practically the entire upper floor. Each bedroom has the luxury of an en suite bathroom or power shower room.

Downstairs there is a sauna and a dedicated entertainment space with a plasma screen, pool table, massage room and bar area. Outside a hot-tub where you can relax with a glass of champagne while you enjoy the uninterrupted panoramic view of the snow-clad vista that stretches to the horizon.

Toys and games, sledges, books, DVD’s, videos and CD’s are provided to keep the young ones happy and entertained.

Reviews

FROM THE PRESS

Kevin McCloud was wowed by interior designer Nicky Dobree's chalet, Ferme de Moudon, exclaiming that it was "like something from a James Bond set" when it featured on Grand Designs in 2004. The 17th-century Savoyard farmhouse set a new benchmark for chalet design with its rough timber pillars juxtaposed with sleek inset fireplaces, accented with earthy colours and cashmere throws.”

The Independent – ‘The Big 6 – Chic Ski Chalets’

“La Ferme de Moudon is the iconic chalet that featured on Channel 4's Grand Designs Abroad in 2004. A traditional 17th-century Savoyard farmhouse from the outside, inside it is all sleek, contemporary design and flooded with light from two huge sheet glass windows that display breathtaking views of mountain wilderness. The chalet sits in its own private parkland, hence the knockout, uninterrupted scenery.”

The Guardian

“Just three minutes’ (chauffeured) drive from town lies Ferme de Moudon, one of France’s most desirable chalets. Nestled amongst the pine trees above Les Gets, the 17th-century farm building was transformed into the epitome of sophistication by London designer Nicky Dobree in 2004, expertly blending original timbers with modern furnishings and artwork and softening rustic antique furniture with tweed sofas and cashmere throws.”

WHAT WE THINK

Like many I remember when this 300 year old farmhouse was featured on “Grand Designs’ so I was very excited to be seeing it in the flesh and it did not disappoint. They say in life that ‘less is more’ and that is the perfect phrase for this incredible chalet – its pared back simplicity makes other chalets look gaudy. Everything in the chalet is beautiful from the simple white walls to the deck chairs and key rings – simple, elegant and beautiful. You will not want to leave.

Gastronome

Do you love food? I don't know many people that don't - there is something wonderfully comforting and indulgent about having somebody else take control of the kitchen. Offering the best of both world's, breakfast and afternoon tea is prepared for you and you're free to take advantage of the wonderful local restaurants in the evening.

A perfect start to the day

No need to rush out of bed - breakfast is laid on. A healthy array of fresh fruit juices, a selection of warming teas and coffee - yoghurts, crispy cereals, juicy fruit and a mouth-watering display of delicious fresh breads & delicate pastries. Your chef will also prepare hot dishes and continental options from the chalet's signature Breakfast Club menu - how do you like your eggs? So much choice that you might miss the first ski lift if you're not careful. Breakfast is served on 6 mornings of your stay.

High tea temptations

Come back after a wonderful day on the mountain to the warmth and comfort of your chalet. Snuggle up on the comfy sofa in front of a crackling fire, with a steaming cup of tea and a generous serving of cake – this is how all afternoons should be. Your chef will prepare a fresh from the oven, sweet treat for your return, so whether your preference is for a hearty sticky Apple and Ginger cake or a delicate Mille-feuille aux framboise is more your thing, there will be something tempting waiting for you. In addition a savoury platter is also included for those with less of a sweet tooth. Personally I don’t think you can beat a slice of crispy baguette with lashings of butter and dollops of apricot jam or nutella - but maybe that ‘s just me - the perfect comfort food.

Celebrate with Canapés

When staying in a catered chalet every night feels like a special occasion, and why shouldn't it, you're on an amazing holiday and it's so good to be alive. You’re dressed and ready for a glass of something chilled with friends and family, ready to regale them with tales of your mountain adventures that may get a little exaggerated for dramatic effect with each rendition. Enjoy the delicious canapés and amuse-bouche freshly prepared by your star in the kitchen.

Serving up a sensuous feast

Take a seat at your own private table - it's time for the main event – a delicious feast, masterfully crafted by your talented chef. With an emphasis on using hand-selected, fresh, local and seasonal ingredients you will be served a melt in your mouth four course dinner that wouldn't look out of place in a Michelin starred restaurant. Dinner is complimented by a tangy platter of divine local cheeses. Menus can be tailored to suit your tastes and your chef will be happy to prepare everything from a simple supper to fine dining delights. Dinner is accompanied by carefully paired wines. During the week you will be served three gourmet dinners, two relaxed dining evenings and on one evening enjoy "Kaiseki" which is an exquisite 6 course Japanese inspired feast.

Let the good times flow

The chalet provides an open bar of artisan beers, house wines, premium spirits including gin, vodka and single malts and mixers. They offer a 'Gin bar' with speciality tonics and a  'signature cocktail' is served each evening and Belstar Prosecco and the house Champagne is served throughout the week. There is a Ruinart Champagne reception served on the evening of your choice during your stay. The chalet offer a selection of at least 8 house wines which are available throughout your stay.

Children & dietary requirements

The chalet is happy to cater for specific dietary requirements, and will serve an earlier high tea for children. You can talk to your SkiBoutique PA about any specific requests from dietary requirements such as gluten free diets to birthday cakes and favourite dishes. We will do our very best to ensure that your wishes are granted and delivered in resort.
