Aviemore. Just the mention of the word opens the flood gates to family memories being bundled in the car for the annual, long and cramped journey North. Sibbling squabbles on the back set, as ski gear made a bid for freedom over the head rest and a squashed in ski bag was cosy company. Rain lashing down on the windscreen was enough to make you realize that when you made it to the other end, there wasn’t even the promise of snow to relieve the journey.
Fast forward forty years and let us reinstill that love for the word Aviemore. With the Portes du Soleil’s 650kms plus of pistes looking forward to welcoming you, let us help you reinvent memories of your favourite days of the year. We also promise that with just over an hour’s luxury private transfer, “are we nearly there yet” cries from the battered Ford Mondeo will also be suitably banished to history. Your children will never appreciate quite how good they have it.
As you pull up outside apartment Aviemore, the beaming smile on your face says it all. With Aviemore just a snowball’s throwing distance from the heart of Les Gets and ideally positioned on the piste, offering true ski-in ski-out luxury onto the slopes of Les Chavannes, the holidays are already getting off to a far more successful start. You can already picture the afternoons, picking the children up from their lessons and popping in for another celebratory chocolat chaud. After all when you’re only six, moving from nursery slopes to blue runs is a considerable achievement. They’ll be teaching you how to ski at this rate.
Self-catering this week won’t be like the days you remember, returning home damp and disheartened to yet another casserole on the hob. Aviemore may be a self-catered apartment but with a pre-arrival grocery shop already loaded into the cupboards for you and a private chef coming to cater for your husband’s birthday on Thursday evening, life in this little piece of Highlands in the Alps is looking decidedly gratifying. You don’t even have to worry about the chore of cooking each evening. With your SkiBoutique PA having arranged an evening meal delivery service, the most forward your morning thoughts have to go towards supper is merely popping boeuf bourguignon in the fridge. Come 6pm, you’ll never be so proud of yourself and ready for the weary cries from the youngest members of the family. You have never been so ready to embrace those hungry hours. With a pear tarte tatin included in that order, you don’t even have to fear about foregoing your favourite course by staying in a self-catered apartment.
Just because you have chosen to self-cater this week, there is no reason why luxury has to escape you. With the finest quality bath products, luxurious slippers and dressing gowns to pad around in and daily cleaning, you really were promised that you can completely kick back and indulge. After all, you spend enough time chasing odd socks around at home to deserve a week off. You have even gone one step further for the ultimate indulgence and booked two deep tissue massages for your favourite week.
To enable complete solitude to allow you to drift off for tonight’s pre warm up leg massage, your husband has kindly agreed to take the children swimming at Chalet Hotel Crychar. Although you are sure that the discerning guests at this 4* hotel behind Aviemore are unlikely to be quite as excited as your children to be sharing their pool, sauna, steam room, gym and ice fountain.
Back at Aviemore, grand alpine architecture blends seamlessly with nods to the small village in the Scottish Highlands. Only in such a boutique apartment would you find a designated après-ski whisky bar. Evenings in with the children won’t be quite such a chore for your husband now. For you there is the promise of the hot tub on the terrace. Perfect for soaking away the evening whilst the children are having sweet dreams of snow angels in their bunk room. With a further two double or twin bedrooms and your master en-suite, this is a far cry from the memories of your childhood skiing.
As if location, location, location wasn’t enough, the owners of the chalet wanted to make life just that tiny bit more hassle free. With Aviemore’s own ski cabin to store all paraphernalia associated with your favourite days, organised morning’s will be a new found revelation in ensuring 8.30am peace and harmony. We’ll also mention quietly that there is a garage. Just incase childhood memories can be erased and you did wish to self-drive in the future, Aviemore has its own internal garage. No, it’s ok, we understand, we’ll perish such thoughts and ensure that there is always a dedicated chauffeur waiting at Geneva for you.
As your friends in high places, these are your favourite days of the year for a reason. We know you’ll be returning home with a renewed passion for everything ski and Aviemore related. We look forward to welcoming you back to Les Gets next winter.
