If ever there was an aptly named chalet, Grand Coeur has to be it. Calming, caring and compassionate, this is a chalet with all the credentials necessary to repair the frayed nerves and emotions of the everyday humdrum, as well as your husband’s skiing.
Ideally located opposite the Linga ski lift, offering fast and easy access to Châtel and the rest of your Portes du Soleil kingdom, Chalet Grand Coeur is in a truly enviable location. You try hard every year to find the perfect balance between the ladies in your party longing for an extra cup of coffee alongside their eggs Benedict and the men’s early morning enthusiasm. You thought this year, with the help of your friends in high places, that you had finally solved the conundrum. Now, you aren’t usually one to brag and boast but upon finding Chalet Grand Coeur, smug was an understatement.
However, who were you trying to kid. You know that when the men in your family are reunited, leisurely mornings are two words that never belong together. Alarm set. Salopettes yanked on. Coffee bolted. Piste map unfurled. Another typical morning in the York, Harlow and Baker chalet household is played out.
You’ll let them plan today’s military operation of piste planning. Their gleeful joy at their favourite week of the year, when childhood days of Risk can be played out in reality. Will there ever be a ski holiday where it isn’t necessary to conquer all four corners of the Portes du Soleil map in one week? However, you have dutifully done your best to ensure it is everyone’s favourite week.
By skiing down from the Linga piste, into Combes and Plaine Dranse, their domination of the 650km of pistes can begin in earnest. For the ladies in your party, gradually stirring from the five luxurious en-suite bedrooms, you prefer a warm up ski to coffee in the village before exploring the picturesque tree lined pistes closer to home. However, in the name of keeping peace, today you agree to spread your wings or rather the fur of your new Moncler bomber jacket.
Fast forward eight hours and you are eternally grateful to be returning to Chalet Grand Coeur’s calming palate of hushed wooden tones. We reassure you that peace and calm will be restored after sinking into the indulgent hot tub with a glass of medicinal champagne and views to transport you. Just how did the staff know this was going to be in order this afternoon?
Harmoniously decorated, serene and restorative. These are just such attributes required from your luxury chalet after one of those days where your husband has consecutively dragged you down black runs and lunch was a grab and go affair rather than the white wine on a sunny terrace you and the girls are accustomed to. Fortunately Sophia had already pre-warned you about the Swiss Wall, dropping down from Avoriaz to Les Crosets, so you knew not to be taken for a ride down that one. He couldn’t pull the wool over your eyes this time, even under the pretense of a navy blue or dark red run.
Tomorrow you shall stick to your guns and dedicate some quality time to that neglected book. Weeks of commuting haven’t got you much further than the first chapter but tomorrow, the cosy sofa next to the large fireplace on the first floor will have your name on it. With the warmth of the Alpine afternoon sunshine and afternoon tea laid out on the terrace by Chalet Grand Coeur’s discreet and professional team, this is your take on après.
With the talents of your professional chef, you could even be tempted to tuck into afternoon tea before cake o’clock becomes acceptable. We reckon the others won’t even notice that the middle slice of salted caramel is missing. Just push the two ends back together and your secret will remain safe with us.
As promised, Grand Coeur is a chalet with a big heart just waiting to welcome and nurture you.

A perfect start to the day
No need to rush out of bed - breakfast is laid on. A healthy array of fresh fruit juices, a selection of warming teas and coffee - yoghurts, crispy cereals, juicy fruit and a mouth-watering display of delicious fresh breads & delicate pastries. Your chef will also prepare a daily cooked hot option for you - how do you like your eggs? So much choice that you might miss the first ski lift if you're not careful.
High tea temptations
Come back after a wonderful day on the mountain to the warmth and comfort of your chalet. Snuggle up on the comfy sofa in front of a crackling fire, with a steaming cup of tea and a generous serving of cake – this is how all afternoons should be. Your chef will prepare a fresh from the oven, sweet treat for your return, so whether your preference is for a hearty sticky Apple and Ginger cake or a delicate Mille-feuille aux framboise is more your thing, there will be something tempting waiting for you. Personally I don’t think you can beat a slice of crispy baguette with lashings of butter and dollops of apricot jam or nutella - but maybe that ‘s just me - the perfect comfort food.
Celebrate with Canapés
When staying in a catered chalet every night feels like a special occasion, and why shouldn't it, you're on an amazing holiday and it's so good to be alive. Enjoy the delicious canapés and amuse-bouche freshly prepared by your star in the kitchen accompanied by a delicious ‘aperitif of the day’.
Serving up a sensuous feast
Take a seat at your own private table - it's time for the main event – a delicious feast, masterfully crafted by your talented chef. With an emphasis on using hand-selected, fresh, local and seasonal ingredients you will be served a melt in your mouth three course dinner that wouldn't look out of place in a Michelin starred restaurant. Dinner is complimented by a tangy platter of divine local cheeses. Menus can be tailored to suit your tastes and your chef will be happy to prepare everything from a simple supper to fine dining delights. The chalet usually serves four 'gourmet' dinners of 4 courses and on two nights serves a simpler 2 course 'family dinners'. Dinner is accompanied by a selection of hand-picked wines and is served on six nights of your stay. Coffee and chocolates are served each evening.
Let the good times flow
The chalet provides an open bar of beer, high quality house wines, premium gin, vodka and local ‘eau de vie’ as well as soft drinks and mixers. There is a champagne reception on your first evening and Crement de Limoux served throughout the week
Children & dietary requirements
The chalet is happy to cater for specific dietary requirements, and will serve an earlier high tea for children. You can talk to your SkiBoutique PA about any specific requests from dietary requirements such as gluten free diets to birthday cakes and favourite dishes. We will do our very best to ensure that your wishes are granted and delivered in resort.
