As you are driven through Val d’Isère you see the skiers sashaying stylishly down the famous pistes, you pass the iconic church of Saint Bernard de Menthon and the anticipation builds. Yet the road winds on still further, the wall of snow-covered mountains ahead getting ever nearer, the landscape more serene, more secluded. You wonder if you will in fact be staying atop those snowy peaks! As you round the final bends the picturesque hamlet of Le Fornet materialises before your eyes, tucked into the valley, the mountains looming large above.
A quaint and exclusive enclave, you have chosen its prime address. Elegantly perched atop the banks of the river Isère and facing the ancient stone bridge, which gifted Chalet Vieux Pont its name. Alongside its twin sister, Chalet Rive Gauche, Vieux Pont commands the attention of all passers by, though there are unlikely to be many of those here in Le Fornet.
As you step inside the stone entrance shared between the two properties a sense of tranquility descends; then you are handed a glass of perfectly chilled champagne and the holiday has truly begun. This will be a special holiday in every way, not least thanks to the team of dedicated staff who make the local stone and vintage wood construction come alive. They have already arranged for your skis to be delivered to the chalet and fitted in your own ski room, the chef has prepared your husband’s favourite meal for ‘that’ birthday you’re not really supposed to mention, and the crackling of the open log fire invites you to sit back and relax, they’ve got your back.
The setting for your very own winter fairytale is full of surprises – but none of these come with a sting in the tale! The upper floor exudes style and sophistication, a generous living room and dining area with room a plenty for you to spread out and each do your own thing. Shouldn’t holidays be about the luxury of time, the space to relax and unwind? To delight and rejoice in your own thoughts, uninterrupted by the hum drum of daily routine.
Vieux Pont cannot fail to inspire. The bedrooms below each take on their own individual form – the most spectacular is set directly into the rock face of the river. You’ll remember drawing straws for this room for many years to come! The ground floor is an unexpected oasis of pleasure; your very own private swimming pool and hamam to steam away the aches and pains of an exhilarating day on the slopes.
This chalet is a master class in the art of savouring all that is good in a quality ski holiday. The superb location affords the luxury of skiing back to the door via a tired legs-friendly blue piste (Mangard). The Le Fornet cable car will whisk you up to the gorgeous, open runs of the Glacier du Pissaillas beating all the crowds from central Val d’Isère – you’re a VIP after all. Fancy an afternoon at La Folie Douce strutting your stuff to the live music piste-side? Your chalet chauffeur will collect you when you’re all danced out and drive you back to the chalet in comfort, just in time in fact for your hot stone massage.
The seclusion of Le Fornet is surely a holiday in itself, an escape from reality if you will. Notwithstanding the splendid isolation of your location, you are within just a few minutes chauffeured drive of one of Europe’s most glamorous ski resorts and all the buzz and activity this affords. Should you wish to break from the ranks and hit the shops – or sample the cocktails and live music on offer, it all awaits you. But should you choose to kick back with a good book and a glass of red – hand selected from a small independent local vineyard – then who’s going to stop you?

“This newly constructed super-chic lodge, designed by architect Michel Covarel, overlooks the river Isère and offers ski-in, ski-out access to the nearby blue Mangard run. Set over four floors, the chalet sleeps 10 and features large open-plan living and dining spaces and five en-suite bedrooms – one of which is built directly into the rock face – below. Relax those aching muscles after a hard day on the slopes in the pool and Hamm am on the lower floor. Open wood fires, ski room and boot warmers, and a resort chauffeur service all add to the feel of luxury and the chalet can be booked alongside the neighbouring Chalet Rive Gauche to sleep up to 20.”

No need to rush out of bed - breakfast is laid on. A healthy array of fresh fruit juices, a selection of warming teas and coffee - yoghurts, crispy cereals, juicy fruit and a mouth-watering display of delicious fresh breads & delicate pastries. Your chef will also prepare a daily cooked hot option for you - how do you like your eggs? On the chef's day-off a continental breakfast is provided. So much choice that you might miss the first ski lift if you're not careful.
Come back after a wonderful day on the mountain to the warmth and comfort of your chalet. Snuggle up on the comfy sofa in front of a crackling fire, with a steaming cup of tea and a generous serving of cake – this is how all afternoons should be. Your chef will prepare a fresh from the oven, sweet treat for your return, so whether your preference is for a hearty sticky Apple and Ginger cake or a delicate Mille-feuille aux framboise is more your thing, there will be something tempting waiting for you. Personally I don’t think you can beat a slice of crispy baguette with lashings of butter and dollops of apricot jam or nutella - but maybe that ‘s just me - the perfect comfort food.
Take a seat at your own private table - it's time for the main event – a delicious feast, masterfully crafted by your talented chef. With an emphasis on using hand-selected, fresh, local and seasonal ingredients you will be served a melt in your mouth three course dinner that wouldn't look out of place in a Michelin starred restaurant. Menus can be tailored to suit your tastes and your chef will be happy to prepare everything from a simple supper to fine dining delights. Dinner is accompanied by carefully selected house wines and is served on 5 nights leaving you free to explore the local restaurants on two evenings.
The chalet provides house wines, X3 bottles of standard spirits and a selection of soft drinks & juices. There is a Champagne reception on one night of your stay. Wine upgrades are possible - payable locally.
The chalet is happy to cater for specific dietary requirements, and will serve an earlier high tea for children.
