You kick out against the current, gliding towards the white mountainside, the views out across the Vanoise National Park completely uninterrupted spread out before you like a vast canvas at a private viewing. The current in your private out-door swim spa is pulling at you once more and you kick with renewed vigour, not letting that view slip away from you for even a second.
Nowhere else could a swim session been accompanied by such fantastic scenes; a winter wonderland surrounds you at Chalet Le Chardon and the contrast between the warm spa water and the cold mountain air is refreshing and invigorating. Having expended sufficient energy to justify a glass of champagne you retreat to one of the outdoor hot tubs to enjoy it and admire the view from a different angle. Chalet Le Chardon feels on the very edge of civilization, perched at the end of a small road and gazing out across the Manchet valley, nothing at all between you and nature.
In this blissful environment it feels as though time could stretch out before you never ending; you can glide from delicious breakfast feasts to romantic lunches on the mountainside and then back to the spa again (via a bar or two) before on to drinks around your private ice-bar and decadent dinners. Just with the assistance of your skis and perhaps the occasional lift from your chalet chauffeur.
These are the pleasures a luxury ski holiday is made of, and Chalet Chardon is the ultimate setting in which to enact your own dream vacation. The epitome of the classic Alpine ski lodge, Le Chardon is sympathetic to her environment constructed of local wood and stone, inside adorned with wooden Savoyard designs and nods to the area’s farming past. There is just a touch of Scotland here too in the cosy sofas upholstered in gorgeous blue/green tartans, inviting you to sink into them before the roaring log fire and curl up with a good book.
Le Chardon has that rare quality of intimacy often lacking in such a vast property; split-levels help to create this feeling of smaller, warm spaces. You can spread out across two sitting rooms, both with fires and stunning views from the floor to ceiling windows. A separate study is perfect for quiet moments, and if work really can’t be left entirely behind then this area is ideal for a quick scan of the emails.
A separate TV snug ensures that there really is room for everyone to kick back and relax in whatever fashion suits without intruding on each other’s moment. Then there’s the little stone grotto, twinkling mosaic tiles and playful LED lights, housing the Sauna.
In this exceptional position on the edge of the Manchet valley you ski from the door, boots toasty warm from the heaters in your private ski room and you feel every inch the VIP, wasting not a single second. The wonderful team of staff ensure that you are just so, taking care of your every need, often before you realised you were wanting for anything at all. The sign of true professionalism you think, as you take a sip of the fresh fruit smoothie the chef has just prepared especially for you. What a way to start the day.
Your gourmet chef will ensure the day ends on a high too, with mouth-watering canapés and champagne before the fire, and an extravagant 4-course dinner to follow. You marvel at how he handles the special dietary requests of all 20 guests so expertly to produce such perfect creations.
This care and attention to detail is matched by the whole team who are attentive and unobtrusive, but arrange everything from relaxing massages and tables at the best mountain restaurants, to that wonderful evening dining al fresco under the stars, warmed by the log furnaces. You’d have to go a long way to top this.

If you want the best of the best in the Alps.... then go to Chardon Mountain Lodges! I have now stayed in all of the chalets... everyone are superb! The staff, the facilities.. the food - WOW! If you want the 'Best of the Best' then you can only come here! I've been going to the Alps for 30 years and nowhere comes close in comparison!!
Stayed here for a week towards the end of the season. One of the best places I've stayed. The staff were amazing - especially Juliet and Archie. The food was fantastic. Great location as it is so peaceful but the cars will take/pick you up from certain areas. Would definitely go back.
“Le Chardon Mountain Lodges is a boutique outfit offering bespoke holidays to five traditionally designed, ski-in/ski-out properties. The signature chalet, Le Chardon, which sleeps 20 in 10 en-suite rooms, boasts two hot tubs and a sauna, as well as some of the best views in the resort.”

No need to rush out of bed - tea or coffer will be brought to your room. Then to breakfast - a healthy array of fresh fruit juices, a selection of warming teas and coffee - yoghurts, crispy cereals, juicy fruit and a mouth-watering display of delicious fresh breads & delicate pastries. Your chef will also prepare a daily cooked hot option for you - how do you like your eggs? So much choice that you might miss the first ski lift if you're not careful.
Come back after a wonderful day on the mountain to the warmth and comfort of your chalet. Snuggle up on the comfy sofa in front of a crackling fire, with a steaming cup of tea and a generous serving of cake – this is how all afternoons should be. Your chef will prepare a fresh from the oven, sweet treat for your return, so whether your preference is for a hearty sticky Apple and Ginger cake or a delicate Mille-feuille aux framboise is more your thing, there will be something tempting waiting for you. Personally I don’t think you can beat a slice of crispy baguette with lashings of butter and dollops of apricot jam or nutella - but maybe that ‘s just me - the perfect comfort food.
When staying in a catered chalet every night feels like a special occasion, and why shouldn't it, you're on an amazing holiday and it's so good to be alive. You’re dressed and ready for a glass of something chilled with friends and family, ready to regale them with tales of your mountain adventures that may get a little exaggerated for dramatic effect with each rendition. Enjoy the delicious canapés and amuse-bouche freshly prepared by your star in the kitchen.
Take a seat at your own private table - it's time for the main event – a delicious feast, masterfully crafted by your talented chef. With an emphasis on using hand-selected, fresh, local and seasonal ingredients you will be served a melt in your mouth three course dinner that wouldn't look out of place in a Michelin starred restaurant. Dinner is complimented by a tangy platter of divine local cheeses. Menus can be tailored to suit your tastes and your chef will be happy to prepare everything from a simple supper to fine dining delights. Dinner is served on 6 nights giving you one night to explore and experience the wonderful local restaurants.
The chalet provides an open bar of beer, carefully selected house wines, spirits and mixers.
The chalet is happy to cater for specific dietary requirements, and will serve an earlier high tea for children. You can talk to your SkiBoutique PA about any specific requests from dietary requirements such as gluten free diets to birthday cakes and favourite dishes. We will do our very best to ensure that your wishes are granted and delivered in resort.
